Creating your first app on Whip takes about two minutes: tap the Whip tab, describe what you want in a sentence or two, and watch the AI build it live. When it’s ready, you play it right away — and anything you want changed, you just say in chat. Here’s the whole journey, start to finish.

Open the builder

Tap the Whip tab in the middle of the bottom bar. You’ll land in a chat with a greeting and a few starter ideas under “Some ideas to start with” — tap one if you want a running start, or write your own.

Describe your idea

Type what you want your app to be, in plain words. One good sentence is plenty:
“A wheel I spin to decide where my friends and I eat tonight — let me add and remove restaurants.”
You don’t need to be technical or thorough — the AI makes sensible choices for anything you leave out, and you can change everything later. If a photo or PDF would help (a recipe to turn into an app, a poster’s color palette), attach it with the + button.
Specific beats long. Saying what it’s for (“for my roommates”, “for my D&D group”) shapes the app more than three paragraphs of instructions. More tricks in prompt tips.

Watch it build

Send your message and the show starts. Whip names your app almost instantly, then you can watch the AI think, plan, and assemble your app piece by piece — with a progress card that reads “Your Whip is currently building…”. Most apps are ready in about a minute or two; ambitious ones take longer. You don’t have to watch, though. Leave the screen, browse the feed, come back whenever — Whip sends you a notification when your app is ready.

Play it

When the “Your Whip is Ready!” card appears, tap it to open your app. It’s a real, working app running right inside Whip — buttons press, scores count, data saves.

Change anything by chatting

Back in the chat, tell Whip what to change, the same way you’d text a friend: “make the background sunset orange”, “add a confetti blast when I win”, “keep score between rounds.” Each edit creates a new version, so you can always go back.

Where your app lives now

Your new app is private — only you can see it. It sits on your Home screen ready to open anytime, and you can:

Keep it just for you

Plenty of the best Whip apps are personal tools no one else ever sees. Private is the default, forever, until you say otherwise.

Publish it to the feed

Put it in front of the whole Whip community — people can play it, like it, comment, and remix it.

Share a link

Send a private link to specific people. They get their own copy to play — your data stays yours.

Keep building

Some apps are never finished. Chat your way to version 20 — each one saved, each one restorable.

If something goes sideways

Builds occasionally fail — usually Whip retries by itself, and a failed build never eats your idea. Send another message in the same chat to pick up where it left off, or check build limits & failed builds for the full rescue guide.

Common first-timer questions

Something small and personal: a coin-flip decider, a water tracker, a countdown to your next trip. You’ll see the whole loop — build, play, edit — in five minutes, and small ideas grow shockingly well on Whip. Need a spark? Steal one from prompt tips & ideas or remix something from the feed.
As many as you like. Building shares a generous daily limit (creating, editing, and remixing all draw from the same pool), and it resets on its own.
They’ll need the free Whip app to play it — your share link takes them straight to it.
Your apps are yours to keep private, publish, or delete. Publishing adds them to the community feed where others can play and remix them — with your name attached. Details in privacy & your data.
