# How the Whip feed works

> How the Whip feed works: For You vs. Trending, category chips, how ranking is decided in plain words, and how App of the Day is picked.

The Whip feed is the **Feed** tab, where you discover apps other people made. It has two views: **For You**, personalized to your taste and refreshed continuously, and **Trending**, ranked purely by all-time engagement. Category chips let you filter, and every card lets you play the app, like it, or dig into its details.

Below is exactly what the feed shows and, in plain honest words, how it decides what floats to the top.

## For You and Trending

## Filter by category

Category chips sit at the top of the feed. Tap **All apps** for everything, or narrow to one of the seven categories, which Whip assigns to each app automatically:

* Sports & Fitness
* Entertainment
* Gaming
* Food & Lifestyle
* Tech & Internet
* Style & Self-care
* Money & Career

## What a feed card shows

Each card is a snapshot of an app:

* The [visuals carousel](/sharing/highlight-reels) — swipe through images and video, including video that plays in the card.
* The creator's name and handle.
* Engagement counts: likes, comments, saves, and remixes.
* The published date.
* A **Try Whip** button to play it instantly.

  Double-tap a card to like it — you'll get a little heart animation. Liking,
  [saving, and remixing](/social/follow-like-save) all help the creator get
  discovered, so tapping that heart genuinely matters.

## How ranking works, honestly

Whip's **For You** ranking rewards the actions that show people really value an app. In plain terms, here's roughly how the signals stack up:

* A **remix** counts most — about 3× a like.
* A **save** counts about 2× a like.
* A **comment** counts about 1.5× a like.
* A **like** is the baseline.
* Recent plays give an app a lift, so apps people are actually opening rise.

On top of that, brand-new published apps get a **fair-shot boost** for roughly their first day, so a great new app isn't instantly buried by older ones. And your own plays don't pump your own app — opening your creation yourself won't game the feed.

  **Trending** works differently: it's pure all-time engagement, with no
  freshness boost. That's why a long-loved app can sit at the top of Trending
  while newer apps shine in For You.

## App of the Day

Once a day, Whip picks one **App of the Day** for everyone, and sends a heads-up at **10 AM your local time**. The pick favors the most-loved app first published in the last week, and no app repeats within a month — so the spotlight keeps moving to new creators. It's a real shot at the spotlight for a great recent app.
